Generous Gift from Citizen

While working the police booth at River City Days, a Vietnam Vet, Larry Johnson, came up to our police booth and wanted to express his appreciation of the police department.

While watching us sell and fit bike helmets for kids, he expressed that he wanted to make a donation for more youth to receive bike helmets.

Larry donated $100.00 to purchase 10 bike helmets for kids in our soccer program in Riverview Terrace.

A big thank you to Larry from the Chaska Police Department and the kids for making this possible!

We recently received two reports of outgoing checks stolen from residential mailboxes.  Checks were stolen and fraudulently altered outside of the city.  Since then, officers in Chaska and Chanhassen have responded to a couple of suspicious vehicle reports alleging possible mail theft also.  Unfortunately, the vehicles were not located and no license plate information was available.

To protect yourself, the following tips are from the US Postal Inspection Service:

-Use the letter slots at your post office to mail letters, or give them to a letter carrier.
-Pick up your mail promptly after delivery. Don’t leave it in your mailbox overnight.
-Don’t send cash in the mail.
-Ask your bank for “secure” checks that can’t be altered.
-Tell your post office when you’ll be out of town, so they can hold your mail until you return.

If you see suspicious activity, report it right away.  License plate information is especially helpful for responding officers if you are able to get it.

Recently CPD became aware of another phone call scam that not only tries to elicit money from innocent people, but is also extremely frightening.  Chaska residents have reported receiving a "blocked" call on their cell phone and when they answer the call they can hear a female crying and screaming.  Shortly, after hearing the female screaming and crying a male gets on the line and advises the potential victim that they have their daughter and they will continue to hurt / kill them unless you send them money immediately.

For anyone to receive this type of call is very disturbing, therefore, we thought it was best to inform our community members and make them aware of this scam and hopefully this limits the amount of fear that future victims might feel after receiving such a disturbing phone call.  If you receive a call similar in nature, please hang up immediately, confirm family members are safe, and DON’T SEND MONEY to them.  After you confirm that family members are safe please call and report the incident to your local law enforcement agency.

CPD in River City Days Parade

This year, to mark the police department's 125th anniversary, a contingent of officers, police explores, CERT members and family participated in the River City Days parade, on Sunday. It was a fun opportunity for all. Detective Jamie Personius, who is CPD's historian, organized us and acquired all of the items we were able to hand out to those gathered along the route to watch the parade. Detective Personius also designed our CPD 125th Anniversary badge, which is proudly worn by our members.
