SAFETY CAMP GETS OFF TO A HOT START

The annual Safety Camp, presented by the Chaska Police Department, got off to a “hot” start on Wednesday, July 15th.  Approximately 120 second through fourth grade children attended the first day of the two-day Safety Camp held at the Chaska Fire Station.

The kids learned many safety tips and had a great time participating in games, crafts, crawling through the smoke house, climbing over the fire vehicles, learning about animal safety with real live puppies, kittens, rabbits and even a chicken, and getting up close to the Safety Patrol helicopter that landed at the Fire Station.

Thank you to all the businesses who donated products and to all the police, firefighters, explorers, and volunteers who helped to make the Safety Camp another success!

Explorers
Home Depot
Kelly Boll

Aaron and Logan, members of the Chaska Fire Explorers group, showed the kids what the fire gears looks like so they wouldn't be afraid in case of a real fire.

Thanks to Home Depot who donated projects, tools, and personnel to demonstrate safety during a hands-on building project.

Officer Kelly Boll, who brought along some of the rescued animals she fosters. She explained safety precautions to take when dealing with them.

Curling

TWO CURLING TOURNAMENTS ALREADY ON DECK

Jeff Isaacson, the new Chaska Curling Center Manager, already has two curling tournaments booked for the beginning of 2016 in Chaska's new curling center.

The first event of the year is "The Big Spiel - It's a Big Deal," which is held in January.  Last year 96 teams, comprised of 384 curlers, participated in the event.  The second event is the College Curling Nationals held in mid-March.

Scott Belvitch, who began employment with the City of Chaska on July 1st as the new Head Ice Maker for the Curling Center, has also been busy.  Scott was "stolen" from the St. Paul Curling Center, where he was General Manager.   We are glad to have him here!

The City of Chaska is excited to have the expertise and knowledge of both men!
