Chaska's Municipal Water System Chaska has 6 ground water wells that pump water from wells that are 330 ft to 817 ft deep. Water is drawn from the following aquifers: Mt. Simon, Hinkley, Franconia, Ironton, Galesville, Jordan, and Glacial Drift aquifers. Chaska has recently completed the construction of the new Water Treatment Plant that is capable of treating 12.6 million gallons per day, for iron and manganese removal to only trace levels by gravity filtration. Sodium hypochlorite is used to disinfect the water for bacteria and fluoride is added to enhance tooth protection, as required by state law. Water is pumped to the distribution system after treatment and is stored in 4 elevated towers that have the capacity to hold 4 million gallons
The water distribution system consists of 120 miles of pipe, ranging from 4" in diameter to 20" with 1,450 hydrants that are flushed yearly for maintenance. Chaska tests the water at numerous locations twice a month to ensure all state and federal water quality standards are met. Chaska's water rates are among the lowest in the metro area.

Chaska's Sewer Department Chaska's Sanitary Sewer system consists of 120 miles of pipe. Currently, the system has 9 lift stations. The sanitary collection system is cleaned once every two years with a high-pressure jetting machine, which helps eliminate blockages. The raw sewage is pumped to the Blue Lake Treatment Plant by Shakopee. Sump Pumps: Water from ground water sump pumps cannot be pumped into the sanitary sewer. Please check your sump pump discharge line to assure it is hooked up correctly. All water that is discharged into the sanitary sewer system is metered by the Metropolitan Council and billed to the City of Chaska, which reflects on your sewer bill charges. If you are unsure of sump pump discharge, please call the Sewer Department at 952-448-4335.
Sewer Backups: If your sewer backs up, contact the Sewer Department before calling your plumber. We will come out to check it the city section of the sewer is clear. Normal hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. After hours and weekend calls are received by an on-call emergency pager. Call 612-660-9651. If your sewer backs up only after you have run water, the problem is most likely in your system, and you will need to call a plumber!
