The Chaska Police Department - 2000

COP CARDS

Each member of the Chaska Police Department has his/her own trading card.  The front of the card has a picture of the department member and the back tells about them.   Children (or adults) get cards from officers on patrol or by stopping in at the police department. 

Chief.jpg (71317 bytes) Chief of Police Scott Knight

Chief Knight joined the Chaska Police Department in 1976.  He has served as a Patrol Officer, Investigator, Firearms Instructor, Police Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer, Police Training Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant and Deputy Chief. He was promoted to Chief of Police on January 31, 2000, following the retirement of Greg Schol.  Chief Knight is a graduate of the FBI National Academy-Session 176-Quantico, VA.  

Personal Message:  Always look for ways to serve your community.

402.jpg (85639 bytes) Detective Sergeant - Jon Kehrberg

Sgt. Kehrberg started his law enforcement career with the Chaska Police Department as a Community Service Officer and has since worked as a Patrolman, DARE Officer, Patrol Sergeant and Detective. Detective Kehrberg is in charge of the investigation division. He enjoys camping, fishing and hiking during his free time.

Personal Message:  Education is a gift.   Stay in school!

Sgt. Stock has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Criminal Justice. He has been a police officer since May of 1988 and joined the Chaska Police Department in April of 1990. Sgt. Stock was a member of the Carver County SWAT Team for five years, is currently a member of the Metro Region Debriefing Team, serves as the Chaska Police Department’s Range Officer and is a Field Training Officer. Sgt. Stock enjoys hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities.

409.jpg (80879 bytes) Patrol Sergeant - Joe Carlson

Sergeant Carlson began his career with the Chaska Police Department in April of 1996.  He was promoted to Sergeant in April, 2000.  He has an Associates Degree in Law Enforcement, and has served as a volunteer police reserve officer for about four years.  In his spare time, Sergeant Carlson enjoys outdoor activities including hunting, fishing and camping.  He also participates in different sporting events throughout the year. 

Personal Message:  Hold trust in your family and your friends. They can often be great assets to you.

401.jpg (91765 bytes) Executive Officer/Patrol Sergeant - Ben Anderson

Sgt.  Anderson began his career with the Chaska Police Department in April of 1996.He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1995.  He began as a patrol officer, served as a Special Projects Officer for two years, has been an Explorer Advisor since 1998, was promoted to Sergeant in 2000 and has also served as an Executive Officer.  Sgt. Anderson is the recipient of both the Purple Heart and Medal of Valor Awards.  His peers voted him "Officer of the Year in 2001". 

Personal Message: Make an effort everyday to feel good about who you are and what you can be.

Officer Nelson grew up in Alexandria, Minnesota and received her Bachelors Degree in English from St. Olaf College in 1997.  She returned to school to complete a law enforcement certificate and became a Police Officer with Chaska Police Department in October 2000. Rachel chose to become a Police Officer because of the challenges and variety of work and the opportunity to help others. 

 Personal Message: When facing a difficult task, act as though it is impossible to fail.  If you're going after Moby Dick take along the tarter sauce.

Officer Juell began his career with the Chaska Police Department in October of 1995.  He holds a B.S. Degree in Law Enforcement and Minority Studies.   Prior law enforcement experience includes being a Ramsey County Deputy Sheriff and a community service officer.  In his spare time Officer Juell enjoys weightlifting, tennis, traveling, and working around the house.

Personal Message: Always treat others as you would be treated.

Officer Lawrenz has an Associates Degree in Applied Science from Vermillion Community College.  Josh has been a lifelong Chaska resident, and began his career with the Chaska Police Department in March 2001.  Josh enjoys weight lifting, fishing and outdoor activites in his spare time.

Personal Message: Set realistic goals, and work towards achieving them.  Say NO to drugs.

Officer Meyer has a Degree in Criminal Justice from St. Cloud State University.  He began his career with the Chaska Police Department in May of 1998.  Lee enjoys biking, jogging and traveling.

Personal Message: Leadership is action; not a position.

Officer Perlich has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. She joined the Chaska Police Department in April 1992. She is a CounterAct Instructor at the Jonathan Elementary School and serves as the School Resource Officer at the Chaska High School. Officer Perlich grew up in the Leech Lake area and she enjoys fishing, biking, swimming, volleyball and other outdoor activities

Personal Message: Expecting success without hard work is like trying to harvest where you haven’t planted.

Officer Norm has been a Police Officer since 1978 and he joined the Chaska Police Department in 1985. He is assigned to work in the Chaska schools where he teaches CounterAct, GREAT and other safety programs Officer Norm has received the following awards: in 1990, he was named Minnesota Outstanding Law Officer of the Year by the American Legion; in 1989, he received the Chaska Police Department’s Community Service Award; and he was the 1995 Chaska Police Officer of the Year. Officer Norm enjoys mountain biking and camping with his family. He is married and has four children.

Personal Message: Everyday do an act of kindness for someone and always treat others with respect.

Officer Kleber has an Associates Degree in Applied Science from Normandale College and attended the Police Academy at LETC. Officer Kleber volunteered as a Police Explorer and Police Reserve during high school and college. He began his career with the Chaska Police Department as a Community Service Officer in 1989 and became a Police Officer for the City in 1993. Mike enjoys weight lifting, motorcycle riding and traveling in his spare time.

Personal Message: Concentrate on fighting against crime rather than against each other! Take a bite out of crime.

Officer Personius joined the Chaska Police as an Explorer in 1998.  He graduated from Alexandria Technical College with an A.A.S. Degree in Law Enforcement.  He then was employed by the Chaska Police as a Community Service Officer and in 2001 he began serving as a Police Officer.   Officer Personius enjoys participating in many sports and outdoor activities.

Personal Message: Sharing what you have is more important than what you have.

Officer Janke has a B.S. Degree from the University of Minnesota in Criminal Justice/Law Enforcement.   She began her career with the Chaska Police Department in March of 1998.   Julie enjoys showing her horses, dirt biking with her sons and playing hockey on a women's league.

Personal Message:  There is no such word as can't; take off the "t" and you have can.  Always strive to do your very best!

I grew up on a farm near LeSueur, Minnesota and have lived there most of my life.  During my school years, I was a member of a variety of sports teams and organizations.  In 1996, I graduated from Mankato State University with degrees in Criminal Justice and Sociology.   I enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including hunting, fishing and camping.   My favorite sports teams are the Minnesota Timberwolves and Wisconsin's Green Bay Packers.

Personal Message:  Be smart and stay in school.  It's the right thing to do.

Officer Wurtz received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Law Enforcement from Mankato State University.  Officer Wurtz was a Police Officer for Spring Lake Park before joining the City of Chaska.  Officer Wurtz enjoys many different sports and outdoor activities in his spare time.

Personal Message:  If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.

Officer Gibbons received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Law Enforcement from Minnesota State University-Mankato.  He began his career with the Chaska Police Department in February 2000.  Kyle enjoys golfing, fishing, and other outdoor activities in his spare time. 

Personal Message:  Yesterday is the Past - it's history.  Tomorrow is the Future - who knows what it holds for us.  Today is the Present - it's a Gift - make the most of it!
