Summer Bicycle Patrol
Officer Norm Prusinski will again be manning his bicycle throughout the summer months.
The bike patrol allows the office to patrol our extensive trail and park system and to
stop and talk with people along the way. It also results in surprises for those who are up
to mischief. It seems they look for patrol cars and not patrol bikes! Last year,
Officer Norm apprehended persons stealing from cars, a drunk driver, and juvenile
offenders who were smoking and out after curfew. If you would like your neighborhood to
receive regular bike patrols, give us a call.
Lockouts
Yes - We still do lockouts! But you will be asked to pay
a $20 service fee to help offset the cost and to help deter misuse. Call the police
service number and either a community service officer or a police officer will respond as
time allows. You will be given an envelope to mail the fee. No open - no charge!
Vacation House Checks
If you are going away for a
week or more, you can notify the department and we will check your home while you are
away. Please phone our office at
448-4200.
Animal Control
Animal Control in Chaska falls within the responsibilities of the police department.
Common animal problems include barking dogs and dogs soiling neighboring property. Before
phoning for police response, we encourage you to first try to resolve the problem by
talking (after taking ten deep breaths) with the offending dog owner. This usually works
but when it doesn’t you can call and a community service officer will visit with the
offending dog owner. Disposition will depend on the owner’s response and if there has
been a previous warning.
If you are the owner of a dog that likes to bark a lot, the department will lend you a
bark training collar to help break your dog of this habit. Keeping a dog in town carries a
lot of responsibilities. Very briefly, you need a license if the dog is over 6 months, you
need to keep it on a leash when off your property, you need to pick up any deposits left
by your dog, you need to keep your dog from barking. A more thorough description and list
are outlined in our city ordinance. You might want to check that out by clicking here. Animal Ordinance
For animal problems other than dogs, we will try to help but - you may be referred to a
professional exterminator or other service. We have helped with bats, cats, rats, snakes,
lizards, cougars, squirrels, raccoons and others. How much we can help depends upon the
situation. Call us and we will see.
