EXPLORER Q & A What is The Chaska Police Department Explorer Post? The Law Enforcement Exploring program is a youth-oriented program affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America. The purpose of our post is to provide its members with a basic knowledge of the field of law enforcement and to provide an opportunity for members to participate in community service activities.
Who Are Law Enforcement Explorers? As an Explorer, you will gain a working knowledge of the law enforcement field with hands-on experience. Through our weekly meeting and training sessions we will cover a wide range of police procedures, such as:
The Explorer Post also participates in community and civic events, such as the July 4th celebration, parades, crime prevention displays and River City Days. We also tour other law enforcement agencies and have guest speakers from the FBI, DEA, US Customs and more. Each year the post participates in a state-wide competition held at Breezy Point, MN. We compete with other posts in police-related events. Every other year we travel to a national convention and compete with other posts from around the nation.
Who May Join The Post? Membership is open to young adults, both men and women, between the ages of 14 and 21. Prospective members should have a general interest and a desire to explore the field of law enforcement. Many former Explorers have gone on to a career in law enforcement, but a desire to become a police officer is not required. When and Where? We meet at the Chaska Police Department each Tuesday at 6:00 PM. If interested in joining contact Sgt. Mike Duzan at 952.448.4200.
