Police Chief's Offer Scholarships

03/10/2004

Chaska Police Chief Scott Knight announces the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association Scholarship Program.  Chief Knight, who is the incoming president, stated “the Association will award worthy law enforcement students up to $750.00 to use toward the final portion of their vocational technical, or “skills” training course.”

The Scholarship Program was established in 1981.  “The Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association recognized that some law enforcement candidates need financial assistance to attain the required law enforcement training.  To this end, the Chiefs offer help to students with these scholarships”, said Knight.

Eligible candidates will have completed their academic training at a Minnesota POST Board approved 2, or 4-year college and have been accepted into, or completed the required “skill” courses.  Students attending a vocational college (i.e., Alexandria or Hibbing) are encouraged to apply, after they have finished their first year, because “skills” training is incorporated into the program.

Students who wish to be considered for a scholarship need to complete an application and submit it with an academic transcript, letters of endorsement from their school’s law enforcement coordinator (or program director) and the Chief of Police, or Sheriff of the community in which they reside.

Application forms are available from the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association.  Students should call 651.457.0677.  The application deadline for this year is June 15, 2004.
